There is plenty available for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Southport is home to over 1000 species which can be appreciated along one of the numerous nature trails and cycle paths, one of which is the Quens Jubilee Trail wich is new for 2012. Other areas of natural beauty include the National Trusts Formby Pine Woods and the RSBP wildlife reserve in Marshside. To supplement this, there is the award winning Eco center which opened in 2004.
Southport is also home to a number of parks and gardens. Botanic Gardens set in Churchtown is a Victorian Park which has a cafe, museum and aviary. Victoria Park is located in the town center and is home to a number of famous events such as Southport Flower Show and was home to the Woodvale Rally in 2012. Hesketh Park less than an hour away from Southport's vibrant town center. The park has recently undergone a £3 million renovation programme which has seen the grade 2 listed observatory and conservatory restored to their former glory.
